Bordeaux Wine
A vast area producing about 5 times more wine than its main rival Burgundy, is sandwiched between the Atlantic and the rivers Dordogne and Garonne, therefore diminshing the risk of frost. More red wines are produced than whites, the wines are also blended. The main varieties for reds are Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet-Franc, for the whites Sauvignon and Semillon. The Medoc, Saint-Emilion, Pomerol and the Graves areas are the most famous of the Bordeaux area. Perhaps more than in any other wine region in France the variety of the soil has so much influence on the style and quality.
