Languedoc Wine
The Languedoc wine producing region is an area stretching from Nimes in the north to Perpignan in the south and all along the Mediterranean Sea. Languedoc wine was neglected for so long, but within the last decade it has emerged as an area full of potential and promise.Most Languedoc wine producers tend to be small, independent and passionate in the art of winemaking. The Languedoc wine region is mostly prominent for their reds, however the region has a multitude of different styles of wine. Minervois and Corbieres, both situated east of Carcassonne and are in our opinion the top of the bunch, though many critics rate Pic Saint Loup near Montpellier very highly. Look out for Cotes de la Malepere south of Carcassonne, still arguably the least known Appellation and certainly a future star. The beauty of Languedoc Wine is the diversity you will find across their vast range of red and white wines. For the reds Syrah, Grenache and Carignan are the dominant grapes, as for the whites there are many of different varieties and many lesser known grapes are used. The Chardonnay can give some surprisingly good results, even if they do not always have the Appellation Controlée grade. Rosé wines from that part of France can also be excellent and better value than most. The Languedoc wine region has become more reputable over the last few years, with various Languedoc wine achieving praise amongst critics and enthusiasts, it is no doubt that these appellations offer excellent value wines and are blazing an exciting trail for the future of Languedoc wine growers.
