Cote Rotie is an Appellation located in Northern Rhone, in the communes of Saint-Cyr-sur-le-Rhône, Ampuis, and Tupin-et-Semons. Covering approximately 500 hectares, this AOC is made up of 60 official vineyards. The official AOC status was granted in the 1940s, allowing Cote Rotie to be recognised for their high quality wines.The wines produced in this appellation are red, made with the Syrah grape, with the Viognier grape used to add the aromas. The appellation rules state that Syrah and Viognier must be fermented at the same time (cofermentation). These wines typically hold floral scents, even i the wines are 100% syrah.
