Cotes de Castillon is located in Bordeaux, east of St. Emilion. Due to this, many Saint Emilion wine growers also have vines in Cotes De Castillon. This appellation is comprised of over 300 winegrowers, with 2,832 hectares under vine. The main grapes being grown are Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Due to the traditional farming methods used in Cotes de Castillon, it has the highest concentration of growers using either Organic, Biodynamic or self-sustaining vineyard management. Although this appellation gained official AOC status in 1989, this subregion joined the Cotes De Bordeaux Appellation in 2008.
