The Comte Tolosan is an IGP wine (Indication Géographique Protégée). IGP is the european classification system of the French VDP (Vin de Pays). IGP and or VDP wines fall between the classifications of AOC and Vin de Table wines. The region covers a large area of wine production in the South West of France from as far as the Atlantic coast, the Pyrenees, the western part of the Languedoc and the Massif Central in the North. The more familiar names and AOC wines within the same area are Cahors and Armagnac. The region benefits from a maritime climate and a selection of the more familiar south west grape varieties. Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Manseng, Tannat and Colombard.
