    Gevrey Chambertin

Gevrey Chambertin is a small village located in Burgundy's Côte-d'Or, which only produces red wines. Famous for exclusively having Pinot Noir vineyards. The Gevrey Chambertin wine has a deep ruby colour, firm body, velvety tannins and notes of red fruits and blackcurrant.

This wine producing commune has an annual yield of approximately 16,800 hectolitres, including 26 Premiers Cru Climats and 9 Appellation Grand Crus. The wines best pair with meats, such as game and red meats, along with ‘meaty’ plant based foods such as chunky, whole roasted mushrooms or a decadent truffle oil infused nut roast. The wines are recommended to be served at 15 to 16°C for the best flavours.

    Wine Production of Gevrey Chambertin

There are nine grand cru vineyards within Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambertin. The wines of this appellation are highly regarded worldwide, with an almost cult like following which is testament to the regions immense popularity. Wine production within Gevrey-Chambertin alone is one of the largest in the Côte de Nuits with over two million bottles produced in a year.

Unlike many wine making regions of the world, vineyards with premier cru status are referred to as ‘climats’. There are 26 such climats in Gevrey-Chambertin alone, with some of the most famous examples being La Bossière, La Romanée, Poissenot, Estournelles-Saint-Jacques, Clos des Varoilles, Lavaut Saint-Jacques, Les Cazetiers, Clos du Chapitre, Clos Saint-Jacques, Champeaux, Petits Cazetiers and Bel Air.

Most of the nine Grand Cru sites are located within the south of the village and produce some truly superb examples of Burgundian Pinot Noir wines.

    Wine Style

Wines of Gevrey Chambertin are bright ruby, exuberant red wines made from the Pinot Noir grape. The wines pronounced are Burgundian in style, with red fruit aromas; cherry, red currants; raspberries, along with blackcurrant and liquorice notes. Due to the exceptional quality of these wines, they have an exceptional ability to be aged, compared to many pinot noir based wines produced across the globe.

If allowed to age, the wines offer complexity and aromas such as game, mushroom, damp forest floor and leather. They are best served at 16°C.

    Grape Varieties

Only red wine made from the Pinot Noir grape can be produced. The appellation regulations allow for a very small percentage of ancillary white grapes to be used to blend with the pinot noir grapes however this is rarely put into practice. Most wines are produced using 100% Pinot Noir, affording the wines a bright ruby appearance with ripe red fruit flavours; red cherry, red currants and raspberries with undertones of blackcurrant, forest floor, gamey notes and gentle hints of vanilla.
