Bourgogne Cote d'Or
Created in 2017, the wine appellation of Bourgogne Cote d'Or is in the heart of Burgundy. It covers the Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits areas and allows producers to classify wines made here above those produced with the generic regional label of Bourgogone. It has been created to showcase wines of better quality close to the village level classification, and allow producers with more flexibility to classify their wines within the larger Bourgogne appellation.
To be eligible to use the appellation, the wines must be made exclusively from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Estimations have found that there are similar quantities of these two grapes produced under the appellation. The slopes of the Cote d'Or face East, below the mid-slopes village but above the plains that use the classification of Bourgogne.
