Alicante
Alicante Bouschet, often simply called Alicante, is most closely associated with the Languedoc-Roussillon region, where it has long been valued for the depth and character it brings to regional wines. A crossing of Grenache and Petit Bouschet, developed in the 19th century by French botanist Henri Bouschet, it is one of the rare teinturier grapes—featuring both red skin and red flesh—resulting in wines with an impressively rich, deep colour.
Traditionally used as a blending grape, Alicante is prized for adding intensity and structure to lighter wines. Its naturally concentrated profile makes it ideal for enhancing body and richness, while also contributing bold dark fruit flavour. Also, Alicante is increasingly stepping into the spotlight in its own right - When crafted as a single-varietal wine, it delivers a powerful and expressive style, with notes of blackberry, plum and warming spice.
