Terre des 2 Sources: Nature and Resilience in a Peaceful Valley
Tucked away in a quiet, preserved valley in the Languedoc region, Terres des 2 Sources is more than just a vineyard — it’s the story of vision, reconnection, and deep respect for the land.
From Travelling the World to Southern Roots
The domaine was taken over in 2018 by Hélène Taillefer, her husband, and a pair of experts in viticulture and oenology from New Zealand. While those partners have since returned home, Hélène’s daughter Elsa has joined, and the family is embracing a new chapter with confidence and passion.
Their story is deeply personal — after years abroad, Hélène and the family returned to France seeking a meaningful life close to nature and wine. It was through studies and lucky encounters that their path led to this hidden gem of a domaine, where the past and present converge in a beautiful coincidence: Hélène discovered that the previous owner came from a village in Algeria just 10km from where her own father once lived.
Embracing Organic Production and Environmental Protection
Today, Terres des 2 Sources is 27 hectares strong with a stable production team and a firm commitment to organic farming. After a 3-year conversion period, the domaine is now fully certified organic as of 2023. The shift was natural for Hélène and her team, who are deeply inspired by the biodiversity of their valley — including the vibrant European Bee-eaters, migratory birds that grace their wine labels.
With two natural springs on the estate, the team takes a nature-first approach, using spring water for irrigation when needed and staying as close as possible to environmentally friendly practices.
Weathering the Storms — Literally
Running a winery is never without challenges, and for Terres des 2 Sources, the years since 2018 have been marked by both environmental and economic trials. From a devastating frost in 2021 that wiped out nearly 95% of their crop, to hail, droughts, and even torrential rain, climate extremes have tested their resilience.
On top of that, the COVID-19 pandemic hit just after their major investments in equipment and quality upgrades — slowing down their export ambitions at a critical time.
Yet through all of this, their commitment to quality and innovation has never wavered.
Looking Forward: Innovation, Hospitality & New Horizons
The future for Terres des 2 Sources is full of promise. They have projects to diversify and expand plantings — such as olive trees, almonds, and pomegranates — as well as further development of their on-site accommodation and event space. With a beautiful tasting room, lush grounds, and a charming park with a natural water circuit, the domaine can become a true destination with its stunning valley as a background.
They’re also exploring white wine production under the Terrasses du Larzac appellation — traditionally reserved for reds — with promising plantings of Roussanne, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Carignan Blanc.
Their red blends remain anchored in tradition with Carignan, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault — always seeking balance, freshness, and elegance reflective of the cooler nights in the Larzac area.
A Family Affair with Artistic Flair
Even the labels at Terres des 2 Sources are a family project. The colourful illustrations of birds on their labels are the work of Hélène’s cousin, François, adding a personal and artistic touch to every bottle.
