Gros Manseng
Gros Manseng is a white grape variety from the Manseng family, native to the Jurançon region in south-west France. It is commonly used in the production of both dry and sweet white wines, often alongside Petit Manseng and occasionally Sauvignon Blanc.
This variety is valued by growers for its resilience in the vineyard. It produces thick-skinned berries that are less susceptible to damage and disease, and it can remain on the vine for extended periods without rotting. Gros Manseng naturally retains high levels of both sugar and acidity, making it particularly well suited to the production of balanced, aromatic wines, including sweet styles.
In terms of flavour, Gros Manseng wines typically display vibrant fruit and floral notes, such as citrus, pineapple, and white flowers, with a fresh, lively character. These wines pair well with a range of dishes, including salads, lightly spiced foods such as chilli paneer, and white meats.
