Alsace Gewurztraminer
Alsace Gewurztraminer is named from the German word 'Gewurz', meaning spicy. Wine produced from Alsace Gewurztraminer is very aromatic with a notable nose of lychee, mango and sometimes rose. The Alsace Gewurztraminer grapes from which it is made, are thin skinned and delicate, with a slightly pinkish tone. The Alsace wine region is the only one in France to label each of its wines with the grape variety used, in this case being Alsace Gewurztraminer.
From the Alsace Gewurztraminer grape there are a number of styles that can be made. Exploring these different tastes can be fun whilst establishing your own personal palate. They range from light-medium bodied whilst slightly crisp through to much sweeter versions which sometimes can be overpowering, however this will depend on the occasion and what foods it will be served with.
