Alsace Muscat
Alsace Muscat is the least planted grape in Alsace as its more susceptible to grey rot and ripens earlier than the other grapes planted. There are however different species of Muscat that exist and the Alsace Muscat Ottonel is becoming more prevalent as this is a more resilient version. Alsace Muscat wine growers are able to rely on planting Ottonel grapes over the other varieties.
One thing that makes the Alsace Muscat Wine identifiable over the other Alsatian varieties is that the Muscat is dry and has a particularly grapey flavour and higher levels of acidity due to the earlier harvest of the grapes. This makes Alsace Muscat the number one choice for an aperitif wine.
