Duras
Duras is a red grape variety native to south-west France, where it has been cultivated for centuries and remains closely associated with the Gaillac appellation in the Tarn region. It is one of the area’s traditional indigenous varieties and plays an important role in preserving local viticultural heritage.
Primarily grown in and around Gaillac, Duras is most often used in blends, commonly alongside Fer Servadou (Braucol), Syrah, and occasionally Cabernet Sauvignon. It thrives in the region’s temperate climate, shaped by both Atlantic and Mediterranean influences. The grape produces medium-bodied wines with firm structure and moderate to high acidity, and is known for its distinctive spicy profile, often showing notes of black pepper, dark berries, and dried herbs.
Although less frequently made as a single-varietal wine, Duras is increasingly being explored on its own by quality-focused producers. It remains a key component of Gaillac wines, valued for the freshness, structure, and complexity it brings to blends.

Gaillac: Domaine Barreau Augustin RedA delightful ruby colour, this wine has a bouquet of ripe red fruits, enhanced by hints of pepper. Round and supple on the tongue at first, it then reveals its fruit and spices, leaving subtle tannins in the aftertaste.
