Pays d'Hérault Monts de la Grage
The Pays d’Hérault Monts de la Grage is a recognised subzone within the IGP Pays d’Hérault, located in the Languedoc region of southern France. The vineyards are situated along the foothills of mountainous terrain, particularly near the Saint-Chinian area, and extend across several communes. With elevations reaching up to around 400 metres and good southern exposure, the area benefits from favourable ripening conditions while retaining freshness.
The name “Grage” refers to the local schist scree soils, which, along with clay-limestone formations, play a key role in shaping the character of the wines. The Mediterranean climate—characterised by hot, dry summers and abundant sunshine—is moderated by altitude and varied topography, helping to preserve balance and acidity. Overall, the appellation produces approachable yet characterful wines that reflect both the diversity of Languedoc terroirs and the influence of its warm southern climate.
