Chorey-Les-Beaune
This wine appellation is located on the lower slopes of the Cote de Beaune sub-region, around the village of Chorey. Close to Beaune, the soil is composed of limestone-marl alluvium, ferruginous patches over stony subsoil.
The grapes allowed under the appellation are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. They produce wines that are medium-bodied, with red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, and subtle earthy notes with spicy notes. The appellation was granted in 1970, and makes 90% of red wine, though the Chardonnay production is growing. There is no Grand Cru or Premier Cru in this AOC (Appellation d'Origine Controlée).
It makes an excellent introduction to Bourgogne's AOC Village with its approachable and generous wines.
