Grenache Blanc
Grenache Blanc is a white grape variety closely related to Grenache Noir, and is most commonly found in the Rhône Valley and across southern France, including the Languedoc and Roussillon. It is well suited to warm, dry Mediterranean climates, where it ripens fully and produces wines with relatively high alcohol levels and a full-bodied profile.
In terms of flavour, Grenache Blanc typically shows notes of orchard fruits such as pear and apple, often accompanied by hints of stone fruit, citrus, and floral aromas like honeysuckle. The wines generally have moderate acidity and a rounded texture, which contributes to their richness. When aged in oak, Grenache Blanc can develop additional layers of complexity, including notes of vanilla, spice, and a slightly creamy mouthfeel, while unoaked styles tend to be fresher and more fruit-driven.
Grenache Blanc is a versatile food wine, pairing well with a variety of dishes. Its body and texture make it particularly suited to white meats such as roast chicken or dishes with creamy sauces, including garlic chicken or lightly spiced preparations like satay. It also complements soft, creamy cheeses such as Brie, as well as vegetable-based dishes, including roasted courgettes, potatoes, and Mediterranean-style cuisine. Overall, Grenache Blanc offers a balance of richness and freshness that makes it both approachable and adaptable at the table.
