Pinot Blanc

Pinot Blanc is a white grape variety most commonly associated with Alsace, where it is used to produce both still wines and Crémant d’Alsace. Although often labelled simply as “Pinot Blanc” in the region, the category may include a blend of closely related varieties, such as Auxerrois, which contributes additional body and softness. Pinot Blanc is also grown in other parts of Europe, including Germany and northern Italy, but it remains a key component of Alsace’s white wine production.

In terms of style, Pinot Blanc typically produces light- to medium-bodied wines with moderate acidity and a fresh, clean profile. It often displays flavours of apple and pear, alongside subtle notes of honey, almond, and sometimes a light yeasty character, particularly in sparkling versions. The wines are generally dry and approachable, with a smooth texture that makes them easy to drink.

Pinot Blanc is a versatile food wine, pairing well with a range of lighter dishes. It is particularly suited to seafood, such as fish and shellfish, as well as lightly flavoured meats, including poultry and pork. While it can handle mildly seasoned dishes, it is best paired with foods that do not overpower its delicate profile, as strongly spiced or intensely flavoured dishes may dominate the wine.
