Cotes du Lot
Following the course of the Lot river, the Cotes du Lot wine appellation is a small and relatively lesser known IGP in South West France. The appellation is closely linked to nearby Cahors, and in many ways represents a continuation of the areas winemaking traditions.
Red wines are the dominate production in Cotes du Lot, with Malbec being the principal grape variety, producing deeply coloured and structured wines, often showing flavours of plum, dark berries and spice. Other grapes such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon are used in smaller quantities. Whites and Roses can also appear too - the former created from Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc, offering notes of citrus and orchard fruit.
