Mourvèdre
Originally Spanish in origin, Mourvèdre produces high alcohol, tannic wines that are grown throughout the Rhone and Provence regions of southern France.
In addition to its appearance in varietal wines, it appears commonly alongside Syrah and Grenache in blends, such as in the Cotes du Rhone and Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The grape has risen in popularity since the 1980s, to become widely grown today.
