Chablis Premier Cru: Dampt Freres Berdiot

The region of Burgundy, also known as Bourgogne, has a rich and opulent history. In the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, the Grand Duchy of Burgundy reached as far as Belgium and the North Sea, becoming renowned for its riches, culture, and wine. Building on vineyards planted by the Romans and later cultivated by medieval monks, the region established a winemaking legacy that endures today. Despite being geographically small, Burgundy produces some of the most expensive and sought-after wines in the world, its limestone soils lending them a uniquely appetising minerality that sets a Burgundy apart from its peers.

Sitting above village Chablis and below Grand Cru in the region's hierarchy, Chablis Premier Cru covers wines from 40 designated climats on the best-exposed slopes around the town of Chablis. Made exclusively from Chardonnay grown on the region's signature Kimmeridgian limestone, these wines show the classic Chablis hallmarks of citrus, green apple, and steely minerality, but with greater depth and ageing potential than village wines. Renowned climats such as Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaume, and Vaillons each express subtle differences in aspect and soil. Often only lightly oaked, if at all, they reward a few years in bottle, developing the flinty, mineral complexity for which Chablis is prized.
