The elegance of the Monthelie wines is very much in evidence in this soft and delicate example.

The region of Burgundy, also known as Bourgogne, has a rich and opulent history. In the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, the Grand Duchy of Burgundy reached as far as Belgium and the North Sea, becoming renowned for its riches, culture, and wine. Building on vineyards planted by the Romans and later cultivated by medieval monks, the region established a winemaking legacy that endures today. Despite being geographically small, Burgundy produces some of the most expensive and sought-after wines in the world, its limestone soils lending them a uniquely appetising minerality that sets a Burgundy apart from its peers.
Monthélie Premier Cru is the top tier of the Monthélie appellation in the Côte de Beaune, a small village tucked between Volnay and Meursault. Its 15 Premier Cru climats lie mainly on well-exposed limestone slopes, producing predominantly red wines from Pinot Noir, with a little white from Chardonnay. The reds are firm and elegant, showing red-fruit character, floral notes, and a subtle earthiness, often reflecting their proximity to neighbouring Volnay in their finesse. Long overlooked, these wines offer characterful, finely structured red Burgundy that rewards a few years of bottle age.
