Mas de Farjou

Region and Appellation Information
Languedoc

Region – Languedoc

The Languedoc, though often referred to loosely as a single entity, is not a wine appellation in its own right but a broad Mediterranean region encompassing a wealth of individual appellations. Traditionally, labels carried the specific titles of Languedoc AOC and its numerous sub-regions, from Corbières and Minervois to Pic Saint-Loup and Faugères. Since January 2016, the historic Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées regions have been administratively merged into Occitanie, France's newest region. Stretching along the coast from the Rhône towards the Spanish border, the Languedoc is one of France's largest and most diverse wine-producing areas.

Appellation – Pic Saint-Loup

One of the trendiest and most acclaimed appellations in the Languedoc, instantly recognisable thanks to the towering Pic Saint-Loup peak and the Montagne de l'Hortus that overlook it. These mountains shelter high-altitude limestone vineyards whose cooling breezes and cooler temperatures give the wines an elegant, balancing acidity rarely found in the south. Red wine is king here, dominated by the classic Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre blend - fruit-forward yet graceful - alongside small amounts of chic, sophisticated rosé, with Carignan and Cinsault permitted in support. Among the most refined wines in the Languedoc, Pic Saint-Loup offers real quality and character.
