Situated in the beautiful South-West of France, Bordeaux is one of the country's largest wine-growing areas, covering over 125,000 hectares. With the Atlantic to the west, its coastal temperatures are moderated by the Gulf Stream, making it an ideal place for vines to thrive. The region produces a staggering 900 million bottles a year, ranging from large quantities of common Vin de Pays to some of the most prestigious and expensive wines in the world.
The sparkling wine of the Bordeaux region, produced in white and rosé styles by the traditional method for over a hundred years. The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a second fermentation in bottle to create the wine's fine, persistent effervescence, followed by rigorous quality assessment, including blind tasting. Made from Bordeaux's classic grapes - Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and others for the whites, and Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec for the rosé - the wines are fresh and elegant, with a complex, delightful aroma and notes of citrus and hazelnut. The region produces around 9,000 hectolitres of sparkling white and 2,000 of rosé each year.
