Brother and sister, Pierre and Veronique took over from their parents in 1993 and have carefully maximised the huge potential of their estate. Their wines are superb, and constantly gain more and more recognition from discerning wine lovers and critics.
The vineyard has now more than doubled in size without diminishing the quality- quite a rare achievement. With Domaine Boudau actually based in Rivesaltes, it is of no surprise that also the famous dessert wines from this villages are also a great success.
Roussillon, though administratively merged with the Languedoc and Midi-Pyrénées into Occitanie since 2016, remains a distinct wine region with a strong Catalan identity, occupying the Pyrénées-Orientales in the far south of mainland France. Enjoying one of the sunniest, driest climates in the country and a varied terroir of schist, granite, limestone, and clay, it is best known for powerful, full-bodied reds built on Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan, alongside rich whites. Above all, it is the historic home of France's vins doux naturels - fortified sweet wines such as Banyuls, Maury, and Rivesaltes. Today, a dynamic community of small, often old-vine growers is earning the region growing international recognition for its dry wines.
Rivesaltes Grenat is a fortified sweet red wine — a vin doux naturel — from the Rivesaltes appellation north of Perpignan, in the heart of the Roussillon, the region that produces the vast majority of France's VDNs. Made chiefly from Grenache Noir, it is created much like Port: grape spirit is added during fermentation to halt it prematurely, retaining the grape's natural sweetness. Bottled young to preserve its vivid colour and fresh red-fruit character, Grenat is deep, rich, and viscous, with notes of ripe cherry, blackberry, and cocoa. A superb partner for chocolate desserts, it is also enjoyed by cigar lovers and pairs well with spicy Asian dishes.
